My Japanese Honeymoon: Day 9 - Osaka Castle & Aquarium

Day 9 signalled our first full day in Osaka after spending part of it travelling the day before. We started the day by heading to Osaka Aquarium. Featuring some of the biggest tanks in the world, Osaka Aquarium was definitely worth the visit. Totalling at about £25 a ticket, the aquarium was packed with varied aquatic life, from penguins, sea lions and dolphins, ocean sunfish, spider crabs, and the huge whale sharks.

The whale shark exhibit was definitely the most popular section, a sprawling tank that featured other species of sharks, hundreds of fish, and large manta rays.

We jumped back on the train to visit Osaka Castle. During the week, Osaka Castle only has limited openings, but we got lucky - they'd opened for a few special exhibitions on the shoguns who inhabited it back in the day. We paid the entrance fee, and walked up each level to check this all out. Osaka Castle is pretty stunning, and if you're a history geek like me, you'll probably appreciate how rich in history this place is. It's also a bit touristy, so there's plenty of food stalls set up outside for you to experience Takoyaki (fried octopus balls). We bought some ourselves - they were delicious, but there wasn't that much octopus in them, to be honest!

After we'd spent the best part of the day at both the aquarium and castle, we spent the late afternoon checking out the shops Osaka had to offer (there was another Super Potato retro games shop!), played some games in an arcade, and then grabbed some dinner in the evening.
